Nico Dress

The Nico Dress

Our hardest working dress

NICO

  DRESS

When we launched a year ago, a cotton maxi dress with a wrap V neckline, two-button closure at the waist, and a front slit for a little extra legroom (in a black and white polka print) was the first to sell out. There on out we've called it The Nico Dress.

Perfect for brunch, for a party, or for Wednesday, the Nico dress is the ultimate desk-to-dinner piece, and looks especially great when you move. The sheer, long sleeves are super flattering, and the skirt is fully lined, and we loved it so  much that we've revisited it a few times, in a soft check, in a clean stripe, in a solid fuchsia and lush indigo, and more.

Our journey this season begins in Sri Lanka. We've traced a tropical pastiche that travel from sunny streets to the design sensibility underpinning Geoffrey Bawa's vision for the island nation. Kandy is dip-dyed in contemporary experience that is symbolic of Sri Lanka, but stays true to the lived-in, year-round breeziness that our brand espouses. Diaphanous chanderi mingles with easy-wearing cotton in a graphic palette: you'll find bold prints, ultra-feminine silhouettes and little details that bring in spring with open arms. Wear it to brunch, out on vacation, or to work on a Wednesday - these pieces are designed to stay with you.

As the weather gets warmer, Nicobar's collection looks right to the origin of the sun: we're travelling to japan. We're thumbing through inspirations both old and new: from timework patching and weaving techniques that we've borrowed to make our own infusing classic symbols of this fascinating culture with freshness, we're letting our travels inspire a season's worth of easy spring and summer living.

Shweta Malhotra and Nicobar have something in common: we're both dotty for polka dots.

We've written about our love for this pattern before (Seeing Spots) and Shweta's own preoccupation with the polka is well documented in her work, so it came as no surprise at all when her first Nicobar purchase was the floor-length cotton polka dot dress.
