Founder and chief engineer at Dyson, the maker of top-selling vacuums, fans, and hand dryers.

My Story

An inventor and industrial designer by trade, I am famed for creating the world’s first bagless vacuum after 5,127 prototypes.

I made 5,127 prototypes of my vacuum before I got it right. There were 5,126 failures. But I learned from each one. That's how I came up with a solution.

I continue to work alongside my team of engineers and scientists at Dyson, developing new technologies to overcome everyday frustrations.

I founded the James Dyson foundation in 2002 to nurture young engineers.
