The Chelsea – Long Heritage Trench Coat

DESCRIPTION

The Chelsea trench coat, in cotton gabardine, is our narrowest fit with a tapered waist and a precisely tailored collar and gun flap. Invented by Thomas Burberry in 1879, cotton gabardine is a tightly woven, weatherproof fabric that protects against the elements. A classic for all seasons and occasions, the trench can be worn belted over tailoring or open and relaxed over denim and T-shirts. Inspired by the Burberry Heritage Archive, the coat features the iconic check undercollar.

CRAFTING THE COAT

Your trench coat has been made in England, combining traditional techniques with modern developments.

Every detail has been designed for a specific purpose. From the epaulettes, introduced to display military rank, to the distinctive storm shield, ensuring that water runs cleanly off the coat, away from the body.

The shape of our signature coat is defined by the belt, pulling in the waist and keeping out the wind. Its distinctive metal D-rings originally used to hang military equipment.

OVER 100 PROCESSES

The most intricate of these is the stitching of the collar: more than 180 stitches are hand-placed, joining the collar to the coat in a fluid curve.

Each coat is lined with the Burberry check – a badge of origin since at least the 1920s. Everything is thoroughly examined for accuracy and precision.
